Correlation between Music, Math and the Brain
It is known that listening to music while doing homework or any other task may improve our skills.
As some people say: ´´When I listen to Mozart, the numbers just seem to crunch themselves´´. The secret for this is that Music is like Math. The rhythm of music is based on repeating certain melodies at specific times and it start over and over again. Those progressions of beats per minute, reinforces the areas on the brain that use Math.
So, it is counterintuitive to say that one loves Music but hates Math. In my experience as a Musician, I see Music as the most expressive Language, because through Music you express and transmit your ideas, your feelings and your desires. On the other hand, as a Human Being I see Math as the tool that helps us fix our daily life problems. So, I strongly believe that we can relate both concepts for all their likenesses.
In my free time, when I play the Guitar, I like to compose new melodies; and I have noticed that all of the melodies that I have created are very different. The reason why that happens is because of the feeling I have for that day. For instance, this means that Music reflects what is in your mind and what is in your heart. It is a way for you to vent your problems and feel how deep you can go through the notes.
On the other hand, in my daily life, I'm always using Math; since I wake up until I go to bed. Even in some insignificant situations I require Math. For example: In the mornings I set my alarm at 6:00 A.M and I have to use Math to calculate how much time I should take to get ready for work, otherwise I would be late and get in trouble with my boss. Also, When I'm paying my University with DOP 1,000.00 and the quote is DOP 232.85 I always make sure that the cashier returns to me the exact amount of money, which in this case would be DOP 50. I'm sorry. Let me play some music. Now yes!. It would be DOP 767.13
You see? We can boost our brain Power through the Power of the Arts!
