Direct and Indirect Speech

The day of Thursday, June 6th, 2019 we worked with Direct and Indirect Speech in our English class. The professor, Atilano ,taught us what are these reports speech about and he gave us some examples.

So, Direct Speech repeats the exact words spoken and when we use direct speech in writing we place the words spoken between quotation marks.

Examples : He said , "I came to class"
John said,  "there's an elephant outside the window".

Now , Indirect or Reported Speech is usually used to talk about the past, so we normally change the tense of the words spoken.

We use reporting verbs like "say", "tell", ask and we may use the word "that" to introduce the reported words.

Examples: He said he had came to class.
She said that she had seen him.

Note: I really remembered things that I had forgotten about this interesting topic.
